Do you connect the thermostat yourself?

No. The final connection is electrical work and is done by a registered electrician who issues the certificate. We install, protect and test the element, then hand over documented resistance readings for them to sign off against.

How long before I can turn it on?

Not until the adhesive and grout have fully cured, usually seven days, and then by ramping up a few degrees a day. Turning a new floor straight to full heat is a reliable way to crack grout.

Is it worth it under a whole floor?

Under a bathroom, almost always. Under a large open-plan living floor, run the numbers on your power tariff first: electric underfloor is a comfort product, not a primary heating system, and we will say so.

The work

Electric underfloor heating is cheap to install and expensive to repair, because the repair is the floor. Almost every failure traces back to three things: a cable damaged during the tiling, a sensor that cannot be replaced, and a mat run under a vanity where nobody stands.

Set out to the furniture plan

Heating goes where feet go. We set the mat out around the vanity footprint, the toilet pan and the shower hob, so you are not paying to warm the underside of cabinetry for the next fifteen years.

Resistance tested three times

Cable resistance and insulation are tested on arrival, after laying, and after tiling, and each reading is recorded. A reading that moves tells you exactly which trade to talk to, while the floor is still accessible.

Sensor in a conduit

The floor sensor goes inside a conduit that terminates at the thermostat, so a failed sensor is a five-minute swap rather than a demolished floor. It is a ten-dollar detail that decides a four-thousand-dollar outcome.

Encapsulated, then tiled

Cable is embedded in levelling compound or a screed before tiling rather than being bedded straight into adhesive. It protects the cable from the trowel and gives an even heat spread.
