How long does a full bathroom take?

A standard Auckland bathroom is eight to eleven working days of tiling trade time: two for strip-out and prep, one for screed, two for membrane and cure, three to four for tiling, and one for grout and silicone. Membrane cure times are fixed by the manufacturer and cannot be shortened.

Do you supply the tiles or do I?

Either. Most clients choose from a supplier and we order against a measured schedule with the correct wastage allowance. If you supply, we will check the batch numbers and calibration before we start, because a shade variation found on day three is a full re-order.

Can you tile over existing tiles?

Sometimes on walls, rarely on a wet-area floor. Tiling over an old floor buries an unknown membrane and raises the finished level against the door and the waste. We will tell you honestly on site which case you are in.

The work

A bathroom is the smallest room in the house and the one with the most ways to go wrong. Four wall planes, a floor that has to fall to a single outlet, a shower that has to be watertight for decades, and every junction on show from a metre away. We treat the membrane as the job and the tile as the finish.

Every internal wet area is membraned to AS/NZS 3740 before a tile goes near it. Corners, penetrations and hob junctions are reinforced, flood-tested where the design allows, and photographed before anything covers them.

Falls that reach the outlet

Screeds are set out from the waste, not from the door. We check the fall with a level in four directions before the membrane goes on, because a floor that ponds cannot be fixed with grout.

Setting out from the sightline

We dry lay the floor and the main wall before any adhesive is mixed. Full tiles land where you look first; cuts land behind the door, under the vanity and in the corner you never see.

Full coverage, checked by lifting

Wall and floor tiles are back-buttered where the tile size or the standard calls for it, and we lift tiles at random through the job to confirm coverage rather than assume it.
