Do you use epoxy grout as standard in healthcare?

Only where the specification calls for it. Epoxy is non-porous and chemically resistant but it is unforgiving to install and costs more. We price both and tell you where cement-based grout with a sealed joint is the honest answer.

How do you control dust in a live ward?

Wet cutting or on-tool extraction, hoarding to the contractor's containment detail, negative pressure where required, and a documented clean-down at the end of every shift before the barrier comes down.

The package

Healthcare tiling is specified around cleaning, not around appearance. The question the facilities team will ask is whether a surface can be cleaned to a standard and stay cleanable in five years. That pushes every decision toward fewer joints, tighter grout, coved junctions and a membrane that carries up the wall rather than stopping at the skirting.

The other half of the job is access. Wards, theatres and imaging rooms do not close for a tiler. Healthcare work is planned backwards from the shutdown window you give us, arrives already inducted and screened to the site's requirements, and hands the room back cleaned rather than cleaned and promised.

Junctions that can be cleaned

Floor-to-wall junctions are coved rather than squared wherever the specification allows it, so there is no internal corner for soil to sit in. Grout is epoxy where the brief calls for a non-porous joint.

Infection-control sequencing

Dust is the controlled substance on a healthcare site. We cut wet or on extraction, hoard and negative-pressure the work zone where the contractor requires it, and treat the containment as part of the method rather than an inconvenience.

Shutdown windows that do not move

An imaging room out of service costs more per day than the tiling contract. Healthcare shutdowns are quoted with the hours needed to finish inside the window, including weekend and night shifts.

Slip resistance and mobility access

Corridors and wet areas are specified to a tested slip rating, and thresholds, falls and level changes are set out so that the finished surface still complies with the accessibility requirements on the drawings.
