Can you regrout without removing the tiles?

Usually yes. Grout is raked out mechanically to a consistent depth and replaced. Where tiles are hollow or the membrane has failed, the tiles have to come up, and we will show you the evidence before we recommend it.

My grout is going black. Is that mould?

Usually, and usually it means the room is not clearing moisture. We will clean and reseal, but if the extractor fan is undersized or ducted into the ceiling cavity, it will return. That is worth fixing first.

Is epoxy grout worth the extra?

In a commercial kitchen or a heavily used shower, yes. In a guest bathroom used twice a month, it is money spent on a problem you do not have. It is also much less forgiving to install and to remove later.

The work

Grout does not crack on its own. It cracks because a tile is hollow, because a movement joint was never installed, because the substrate moves, or because water has been getting behind it for years. Replacing grout without answering that question buys you about eight months.

Diagnosis before demolition

We sound the floor for hollow tiles, check for movement joints, and look at where the cracking runs. A crack in a straight line across a room is a structural joint asking for attention, not a grout problem.

Matching tiles honestly

We will search for a discontinued tile and we will tell you when the match will be visible. A near-match in the middle of a floor is usually worse than an honest feature strip.

Silicone where movement lives

Internal corners, wall-to-floor junctions and around baths take flexible sealant, not grout. Regrouting those junctions with cement is the most common reason a bathroom re-cracks within a year.

Colour matched and sealed

New grout is matched to the aged colour of the existing rather than to the original product code, because six years of use has moved it. Then the whole floor is sealed to even out the difference.
